Organic waste program unanimously passed by county
By Richard Blanchard

A county wide organics pickup program will be coming to Simcoe county late next year.

County councillors voted unanimously Tuesday morning to have all 16 member municipalities begin the program at the end of September 2008.

The organic pickup will be similar to the one that has been in place in Adjala- Tosorontio for the past five years.

Technical issues dominated the debate over the program.

Both the mayor and deputy mayor of Bradford West Gwillimbury expressed concerns about the program, limiting residents to one bag of trash per week.

Adjala-Tosorontio deputy mayor Doug Little said that the implementation of a one bag limit was going to be developed during the run-up period to the start of the program. New Tecumseth mayor Mike MacEachern said that he was quite pleased about the decision to move forward with the program. "I've sat through two terms of county council and I'm glad to see we are making progress on this."
