Essa golf tourney tops $60k Essa township's annual golf tournament to benefit the new cancer care centre at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie was recognized last Wednesday by representatives from the hospital. "I see that this is your fifth tournament and you have now raised over $60,000," said Chris Gariepy, from the hospital's board. The township handed over a cheque for $12,000 from its latest tournament on Wednesday. "It's been a great honour to support this project," said mayor Dave Guergis. "The cancer care centre is a very good thing. Gariepy said that he hoped that the tournament would continue in order to aid in the purchase of equipment for the new centre. "We hope to go to tender in the spring of 2008, begin constructing next fall and be open in 2011," he said. |
