CHURCHILL NEWS
by Linda Gerow

Sept. 27th seems a day like any other. I often think about other September 27th's over the years. What happened on this nondescript date? For example, in 1889 on this same date, New York's first real skyscraper opens at 50 Broadway with 13 stories; in 1903, the Wreck of the Old 97, a train crash made famous by the song of the same name occurred; in 1923, Lou Gehrig hit his first homer; in 1950, heavyweight champ Ezzard Charles defeats Joe Louis; in 1964, the Warren Commission Report is issued, stating that JFK assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, acted without outside help and in 1998 Google is established.
