Police News Bradford - On Sept. 30, South Simcoe Police received information that a child had their hand cut by a knife blade which was buried in the sand at a park in Bradford. Though the injury was not too serious, police learned that other blades were observed by the children in the sand near the playground equipment at Depeuter Park in Bradford West Gwillimbury. Few details are known about why the blades were buried in the sand. However, South Simcoe Police are warning parents to keep their children away from the park until a further check of the sand can be completed. Man charged with threats on 'Facebook' Essa - Members of the Nottawasaga OPP are currently investigating an incident involving a threatening message that was sent using the internet based message network called 'Facebook'. On Sept. 26th, a 16-year old Essa. Twp. female received a message that was found to be extremely threatening in nature. The victim, concerned, contact police. Nottawasaga OPP conducted an investigation, which resulted in a 17-year old youth, also of Essa Twp., being arrested and charged with Uttering a Threat to Cause Bodily Harm. The youth was held in custody pending a court appearance in a Barrie court the following day. Marijuana charges laid Essa - On Wednesday, Sept. 26th, in the morning hours, Nottawasaga OPP, while on patrol in Angus, had an occasion to investigate a 52-year old man riding a bicycle on Mill St in relation to drugs. Located on the man's person was approximately 18.5 grams of cannabis marijuana, which was subsequently seized. Charged with Possession of a Controlled Schedule Substance - marijuana, is 52-year old James Butts of Angus. Butts was released, pending a court appearance in Bradford at a later date. Motorcycle involved in Angus collision Essa - On Sunday, at 12:05 p.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Mill Piner River Road/King Street, in Angus. A southbound Plymouth Neon vehicle turned left across the path of a northbound Hyundai vehicle. A northbound Harley Davidson motorcycle then struck the Hyundai at which time the passenger of the motorcycle was thrown, landing on the roadway. Six persons were injured in the collision and transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie with various injuries. The motorcycle passenger was then airlifted to Sunnybrook and Womens College Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, where she remains in critical condition. The area was closed to the public while members of the Central Region Traffic and a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator from the Nottawasaga OPP investigated the collision. Nottawasaga OPP are continuing their investigation. Chemical spill in Alliston Alliston - On Sept. 26 at approximately 2:20 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP were called to a non-traffic accident involving a chemical spill at a local business on Hwy 89 near C.W. Leach Road, Alliston. It was learned that the driver of a tractor-trailer had dropped his trailer off at his final destination and in checking on the contents in the trailer and opening up the back door, the driver detected the smell of a noxious substance. The driver also noticed that the load was leaking. The driver contacted his supervisor; the two of them inspected the load. They called the OPP and an ambulance to attend. Subsequently, the New Tecumseth Fire Department and the Honda HAZMAT Teams attended to assess the situation. As a result of this assessment and to ensure the safety of the public, the OPP evacuated the immediate surrounding area and closed off C.W. Leach Road at Hwy 89. This diversion forced many residents to seek a construction route road to get them home. The driver and the supervisor were treated at the scene and released from the scene. It appears two chemicals were leaking from a drum in the back of the trailer. 34 seat belt charges laid The South Simcoe Police checked approximately 1400 hundred vehicles during the month of September 2007 for compliance with regard to seat belt use by drivers and passengers in their motor vehicles being driven on Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury roadways. A total of 34 seat belt related charges were laid this month and 21 of these charges were laid during the seat belt campaign from 22 September - 30 September 2007. Police are pleased that most people are complying with the seat belt laws that originally came into effect in 1977 under the Highway Traffic Act. South Simcoe Police will continue to check for seat belt compliance and urge all citizens to continue to buckle up, as seat belts can save lives! |
