Halloween treats and bedtime tales at the Essa Public Library
By Angie Wishart

"Libraries - The World at your fingertips": Canada Library Month and Ontario Public Library Week (Oct. 15 to 20) celebrations are underway at the Essa Public Library branches in Angus and Thornton. We kicked off the fun with both branches participating in the Guinness World Record walk on Oct. 3 with a total of 64 people walking one kilometre. We'll let you know, at a later date, if this attempt at the world record walk was successful!

Events at EPL are:

Book launch for new local author: Cindy Jost welcomes everyone to the Angus Branch as she presents her new book, "Will your wants" Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. FREE

Bedtime Tales: Children can bring their grownups and a stuffed toy to listen to bedtime stories read by guest storytellers. Thornton Branch - Oct. 17 and at Angus Branch - Oct. 18 from 7 to 7:30 p.m. both branches. FREE, NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED!

Family Games Night: Bring your family to play a board game in the Library! Thornton - Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Angus - Oct. 25 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Food For Fines - During Ontario Public Library Week, we ask that you pay overdue fines with non-perishable food items. All food donated will be directed to the Angus Food Bank. (Note: only overdue fines - no other fees/charges are removed).Puppet fun presented by Briar Rose Puppetry: Mashenka and the Bear is marionette fun for children ages three and up on Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. in the Thornton Branch. Children must be accompanied by a parent/caregiver.

Angus Reads! Thornton Reads! Essa Reads! Shout out that "ESSA READS"! Through October and November, for every book read, complete a 'book decal'. Return them to your Essa Library Branch and we'll display them on library windows and walls! Help us show how important reading is to you.

Fortieth Anniversary of EPL: Join the Essa Library Board on Oct. 22 at the Angus branch from 6 to 7 p.m., to celebrate 40 years of community service by the library! Cake, refreshments and fun!

Ontario Early Years Storytime and Essa P.L. Storytime sessions are also back at both branches. Check in your branch for the upcoming session dates and for more information.

Also as part of the fun, we have prize draws! Free bookmarks! Library displays! And much more at the Essa Public Library!
