Double the driveway pleasure for new homes
By Richard Blanchard

Essa township is staying with its policy that all new homes in the township must have a driveways which are wide enough to accommodate two cars.

Council sent a proposal by an Angus area developer back for review Wednesday night.

Essa Developments, which plans a 244 house subdivision in the southern part of Angus, asked council to accept driveways on its town houses, which will have a frontage of about 23 feet, which could accommodate one and half cars. They also planned to construct garages which are one and half cars in width.

"As far as I'm concerned, the extra half car length is not usable. I want to avoid stacking of cars on the streets," said mayor Dave Guergis.

Councillor Rick Newlove said that he was afraid, without the double driveways, the township roads department would have to contend with lots of problems with clearing the streets of snow in the winter.

"The City of Barrie is banning street parking at nights during the winter months to avoid this problem," he said.

Council's concerns were sent back to the developer for review.
