Girl Guides, raising money through music and plenty of Thanksgiving wishes On Tuesday, September 25th, 2007, Pathfinders Ashley Aman amd Rebeca Williams received the Canada Cord in a ceremony held at the Masonic Hall in Cookstown. To receive this highest honour in the life of a Girl Guide, the two girls had accomplished all the requirements, had done all the projects, had dutifully adhered to the Girl Guide of Canada Promise, from the time they started out as Sparks. Pathfinder Leader Annie welcomed the guests, parents, Guides and Guiders, fellow Pathfinders and friends. The Flower Ceremony was conducted by Annie and Company, followed by the Candlelight ceremony with Joan and Laura presenting Ashely and Rebecca with speical Pins and tying the Canada Cord to the girls' shoulders, followed by the presentation of Awards by Annie and Ann-Marie. On behalf of the Arrowhead District, the girls received bouquets of flowers and presents of socks and pins marked also this special event. With a warm welcome and well wishes, the girls now moved up to the Senior Branches of the Guiding movement. Refreshments and Campfire concluded the evenng. I hope all of you had a happy, healthy Thanksgiving Day. After years and years celebrating Thanksgiving at our house, I got invited by my family to spend the weekend at Sarnia. It is my daughter - in- law Nancy's hometown and we celebrated Thanksgiving Day at her sister's home, surrounded by 27 family members. It was great. The drive to Sarnia was also neat, especially stopping in Erin, a vibrant town with nice stores and a bakery to die for. I wish Cookstown coud expand like that. Sarnia offered great walks along the St. Clair river, no smell noticed from the refineries. A fundraising concert for the Tec We Gwill Hall in Newton Robinson will be held on Saturday, October 20th at 7.30 p.m at the hall. It will feature soloist Judy McCombrey, with a programme under the title "Country Pop" . songs made famous by Barbra Streisand, Patsy Cline and others. During intermission home baked goodies will be served. For tickets $10.00 call Gladys 705-458-9667. |
