Newfie' dance and pipes and drums to echo through Lefroy and Bell Ewart I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. Innisfil Pipes and Drums: Practice takes place at the Belle Ewart Legion Branch 547 every Monday at 7 p.m. New members are always welcome. Contact Ken at 705-456-3717 for information. Over the years, many people have been taught how to play, so why not come out and see what it's all about? Visit their website at www.innisfilpipesanddrums. ca. Lefroy United Church News and Coming Events: There's another new website and this time it's for the Lefroy United Church at http://www.lefroyunited.ca/. While it is still under construction as more items are being added, you can still visit and see upcoming events and other news. Some special highlights are listed below: Weekly Events: Social Club: This group meets every Tuesday of the month at the Grange to play cards; every third Tuesday of the month is a pot luck lunch starting at 12 p.m. Open to everyone! Cost is $2 to play, there is a 50/50 draw as well. We play regular euchre or bid euchre. A charge of 25 cents goes towards prizes. Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Coffee is provided. We meet in the basement of Lefroy United Church. No prior experience in bible study needed - we are all learners. Discussion usually centres around the passage of scripture that the minister will be preaching on the upcoming Sunday - so this study is a great way to prepare for the sermon on Sunday and help the preacher with insights Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. U.F.O.'s: Bring along any UnFinished Objects that you are working on (sewing, quilting, knitting, etc.) and we work on finishing them. There might be someone there to give you a hand if you need it. Great way to meet people and get work done at the same time. Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The U.C.W. women do hand quilting, sewing and piecing quilts. Anyone who is interested in learning these skills is welcome to join us. You bring a "bag" lunch, we provide the tea and coffee. Everyone is always welcome. For more information on any of the weekly events, please contact Edna at eschran618@rogers.com. Apple Pies: Once again Lefroy United Church is busy making our popular apple pies. You can preorder them and this is suggested as they do go very fast. Just call the church at 705-456-2098 and leave us your order. You can pick them up fresh or flash frozen, ready to bake. Cookie Tins: What would be more Christmassy then home baked Christmas Cookies! This idea was tried out last year and were met with such a positive response that baking went into overtime! Once again this will be on a pre-order only, and yes they will go fast. You will get a full tin of assorted home baked treats for just $10. Call the church at 705-456-2098 to get your order in now. The tins will be available at the annual Christmas Bazaar on Dec. 1 for pick up. Victorian Tea: Saturday November 10th from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Grange Hall in Lefroy. May we offer you a spot of tea? Another annual timehonoured tradition at the church. This event is a favourite for young and old. Be transported back to a time of beauty and elegance. Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches and fanciful desserts and get treated like the royalty you really are. All this for only $5. Christmas Bazaar: Saturday Dec. 1. This craft sale wowed everybody last year. Don't miss it this year, as we have an amazing variety of items for sale. You'll be able to complete your Christmas shopping and then enjoy a homemade lunch of soup and sandwich. Don't forget to go into the sanctuary for a little trip back into Innisfil's history as you see local antique quilts on display. This year we have also added a display of hand crafted or novelty tea towels. For crafters, there are still a few tables to rent to sell your wares. Call Diana at 456-0255 or the church at 456-2098. Covenanting Service: We are very excited to welcome the Rev. Todd McDonald to the church. In our tradition, a new minister is welcomed to the community through a special covenanting service. Ours will be held on Sunday November 18th beginning with a potluck lunch at 12:30 p.m. The service begins at 2 p.m., with newly ordained Rev. Ruth McDonald from Bradford United Church as guest speaker. Dessert will be served after the service. As a special note, please be advised that there will be no regular 10 a.m. service that day. Newfoundlander Dinner/Dance: SOLD OUT! For those who were able to get tickets, mark your calendar for Oct. 20. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and a buffet "Jigs" dinner will follow at 7:30 p.m. There will be good down home fun with Newfoundland skits during the desserts. There will be only one door prize but a good one!!! The fun will end at 1 p.m. We advise that this is for adults only. Entertainment is Fred White and Brenden Gilliam "A Cape Bretener and Newfoundlander", who specialize in Irish/Country/Down East/Rock 'n Roll! The dinner/dance will be held at the South Simcoe Community Centre (Lefroy Arena). Get on those dancing shoes ... see you there! Quote: "Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film." If you have any items/news for this column, please contact me at lagerow@rogers.com or call me at 705-436-9769. |
