Officers located the vehicle approximately 150 feet into Lake Simcoe, sitting in eight feet of water. No occupants were found in the vehicle. ID scam being investigated

South Simcoe Police are investigating a fraudulent promotion scheme reported by a Bradford area resident.

The resident says he had received an e-mail that he was an heir to a European fortune. In order to collect the fortune, which was allegedly valued at over $22 million, the man was required to complete an identification claim form with all his personal information.

To process the transfer of assets, $2,600 was required to cover costs. Once the claim form and $2,600 was sent, the estate assets trust would supposedly be transferred to the man's bank account.

Police warn residents these types of claims are fraudulent schemes to get personal information and money. Residents should never provide personal information in response to a solicitation from an unknown or unconfirmed source when requested by mail, telephone, or e-mail.

Anyone who receives what they believe to be a questionable or fraudulent letter, e-mail or telephone solicitation can call PhoneBusters - a joint agency operated by the RCMP, OPP and Competition Bureau of Canada - at 1-888-495- 8501 or visit www.phonebusters.com.
