Parent committee volunteers needed Parent volunteers are still needed for a committee that will help determine future school closures. Simcoe County District School Board staff have extended the application deadline for parents and guardians interested in participating in a school valuation committee, which will be responsible for developing criteria to assess the impact of a school on its students, community, the board and the local economy, to Oct. 19. The committee is part of the board's pupil accommodation review, which will help determine the process for closing and consolidating schools in the future. Twelve parents and guardians will serve on the committee and represent six regions throughout the board. Participants will be divided into two categories, to help develop elementary and secondary school valuation criteria. Teachers, principals, school trustees, students and municipal/business representatives will also be included on the committee, with names selected through a random draw. The committee will likely meet up to five times between October and December, and will be disbanded once the board approves the valuation criteria. Interested parents are invited to submit their names, child's school, phone number, e-mail address, and preference for developing either an elementary or secondary framework. Applicants can send the information by fax, mail services, or e-mail. For more information, visit www.scdsb.on.ca. |
