Poppy campaign almost underway, and other Legion news
By Ed Collins

My second week back and I fouled up. I prepared my report, then I didn't send it in. So her e is my third week back report. Maggie and I went to the Legion District Convention in Huntsville last weekend. Huntsville is a great town, with the Legion providing us with great hospitality, and excellent service. Lots of fun, informative meetings, and a friendly bunch of Comrades.

Remembrance Day: Is fast approaching. We start our Poppy Campaign Oct. 26 so watch out for us at your favorite stores. This is the Legion's only campaign for funds, and it is what we Legionnaires are all about. The money we collect is put in a trust fund and is only used for the benefit of veterans, ex-service members and their dependents. We will be holding our remembrance service, Sunday November 11th at 11 a.m. at our new cenotaph, everyone is welcome.

Attention all veterans: I didn't talk to Jack over the weekend, so I don't know how many people have called for appointments. If you haven't made yours yet, I am sure Jack will take late comers. The Legion Service Officer is coming to our branch Oct. 23. The deadline to make an appointment is passed. However if you have any thing you would like to discuss with him regarding your service entitlements from Veterans Affairs, make an appointment to see him. It is all strictly confidential. He has done many good things for our veterans. This includes VIP, pension adjustments, whatever. Phone Jack at 458-1966 for an appointment.

Sunday dinner: I urge you all to call us with your reservations, this is going to be a good dinner at a bargain price. Oct. 14, at 5 p.m. will feature roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, gravy, veggies, and a special desert. Everyone is welcome. Please phone ahead and let us know you are coming, so we can reserve a place for you. Call 456-7293, 436-5197, or the legion at 456-2531, during regular hours.

Entertainment: We are planning some Friday night karaoke. This will be a fun night with dancing and a draw. We are also planning a Maritime night, with down home music, food and hospitality. Watch for details.

Saturday meat draws: Come on out Saturday afternoons and get in on the meat draw. Everyone is welcome. We have lots of good cuts of meat, and the tickets are only $2 each. You can't win if you don't enter. Lots of fun, good friends, and comradeship. I think I already said that, but what the heh?

Monday night darts: Regular darts are held Mondays at 7 p.m., and usually lasts about two hours. Come on out and join in, we need players of all caliber, everyone is welcome. You do not have to be a member for our regular darts.

Thursday euchre: Every Thursday afternoon, starting at 1 p.m., we have regular and bid euchre, followed by snacks. Everyone is welcome.

Branch hours: Friday and Saturday 2 to 7 p.m., and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. New members are especially welcome. Phone 431-9231, or 456-2531 during business hours for more information, or leave a message.
