Prenatal yoga classes starting soon in Innisfil and Barrie Prenatal yoga is all the rage for Anne-Marie Davies. The mother of five has continuously taught yoga through each of her pregnancies. She says it helps teach proper breathing, stretching and relaxation techniques, perfect for any expectant mother. "Breathing is the most important aspect of yoga. Connecting with your breath, learning its' rhythm and breathing properly, will bring calmness to mother and baby," she says. "It will be helpful throughout the pregnancy, during birth and after the baby is born." Davies currently teaches prenatal yoga classes for the Town of Innisfil, at the Grange Hall in Lefroy. Starting Oct. 24, she'll also be hosting prenatal and adult beginner classes at the Active Body Rehabilitation Centre in Barrie. "Prenatal yoga is for pregnant women, beginning at three months. It is the ideal preparation for expectant mothers," she said. "It is a simple class of relaxation, gradual stretching, breathing and meditation. Relaxation helps the body and mind let go of any stress or tension there may be. Entering into a still state rests your entire being. Your (child) also benefits by bathing in that peace and tranquility with you. Every body part participates throughout a pregnancy." Davies has been teaching yoga techniques for the last 14 years, and is certified with the Yoga Alliance. For more information, call 431-6946. |
