Private lands targeted for county reforesting

Simcoe county councillors have given provisional approval to continuing a program which will fund reforestation on privately owned properties which contains environmentally sensitive lands.

Members of the Corporate Services committee voted last week to continue the program in 2008. It was administered by the local conservation authorities and land stewardship organizations 48,000 trees were planted on 33 hectares of land which included stream corridors and marginal farmland in 2007.

The county will contintribute $25,000 to the program in 2008 if the decision is approved by the full county council next week.
