Ukrainian food, fun and dancing on tap in Barrie It's almost time to feast on food from the European east. The 8th annual Ukrainian Festival is scheduled to take place at Barrie North Collegiate Institute on Oct. 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature traditional Ukrainian dance, music and cuisine, while several vendor kiosks will display arts, crafts, embroideries and pysanky (wooden or beaded decorated eggs) among other things. Organizer Diane Lubinski says the event helps showcase the unique heritage of Ukrainian culture. "Continuation of cultural activities, unique and venerable has demonstrated great understanding of the need to preserve our culture and heritage," she said. "This festival's mandate is to promote Ukrainian Culture." The festival began in 1999, and has since grown into one of the most enjoyable cultural celebration in the Simcoe County area, says Lubinski. Tickets for the event cost $20 for adults and $10 for children under 10 years of age. Tickets include admission, concert fees, access to vendors and a full traditional meal.
