Police News Woman charged under new racing legislation A 45-year-old Barrie woman was arrested after allegedly driving at nearly double the posted speed limit. Recently, Nottawasaga OPP officers conducted radar surveillance along the 5th Concession of Essa Township. They observed a vehicle travelling 113 kilometres per hour in a posted 60 zone. The driver was charged. Her license was suspended for seven days and the vehicle was impounded. Honda stolen Nottawasaga OPP responded to a service call Oct. 21, involving an Angus woman reporting that her motor vehicle, a 1999 Honda Civic had been stolen by a family member. Twenty-four-year-old Lisa Lashbrook of no fixed address was located on Highway 400 in Innisfil, allegedly operating the motor vehicle. She was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000 and fail to comply with probation order. She wad held for a bail hearing in Barrie. Seatbelt violation lands man in crack cocaine bust On Oct. 26, South Simcoe Police stopped a man for a seatbelt violation while on general patrol in Innisfil. The 40-year-old man was found to be a suspended driver and was also on probation. Further investigation revealed the suspect was in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and two counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing in Barrie. Driving complaint leads to arrest An investigation of a driving complaint made by a citizen during the evening hours of Oct. 26 resulted in the arrest of a 47-year-old Innisfil resident. The man was charged with impaired driving, and drive over 80 milligrams. The male party was observed driving in an erratic manner by a citizen and reported to police who stopped the suspect vehicle on Innisfil Beach Road. He was subsequently charged and released on a promise to appear, with a court date of Dec. 6 in Bradford. Bradford couple charged with theft Police investigated a suspicious vehicle parked at Sobey's Oct. 26. Police had received a report that a male party had stolen a quantity of meat and seafood from two grocery stores in Barrie. As a result of this investigation, a Bradford couple were arrested and charged with theft. The woman was released on a promise to appear in a Bradford court on Dec. 27. The man was found to be wanted by Guelph police, and was released on a promise to appear. He was then turned over to Guelph police. Domestic assault arrest Police charged a 50-yearold Tottenham area male with domestic assault following an incident that occurred in a vehicle on Highway 27 in the Bond Head area. At about 5 p.m. Saturday October 27, a 44-year-old woman was in a vehicle with her husband. An argument ensued and she was allegedly assaulted by her husband. The victim fled the vehicle and reported the incident to police. The man was released to appear in Bradford court in December. Drugs found in vehicle Police pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation Innisfil Beach Road Saturday morning. A search of the vehicle revealed several grams of marihuana, and cannabis resin and oil. A 38-year-old Innisfil man was charged with possession offences and released to appear in Bradford court in December. Domestic dispute results in "arrest" On Monday October 29, police attended a residence in Innisfil for a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers spoke to a female who told them she had been struck in the head by her commonlaw boyfriend who had left the residence. While police were still at the residence, the boyfriend returned. He was arrested and taken to a police station, where he produced a tape recorder and indicated he had recorded the whole incident. The officers played the tape, which clearly recorded the female telling the male she would ruin his life by calling the police and telling them he had assaulted her. Based on this evidence, the male was released unconditionally. The officers then reattended the female's residence and charged her with public mischief and obstructing police. She was released from custody and taken to a motel for the night. |
