Baking for Goodfellow
By Chris Simon

The smell of cookies and Christmas incense billowed through the halls of Goodfellow Public School Saturday. Several craft vendors, volunteers and students hosted the school's Christmas bazaar and bake sale, the second largest annual fundraiser at the facility, last weekend. Santa Claus visited the school, volunteers decorated cookies for auction, and parents, staff and vendors sold a variety of items, ranging from wreaths and toys to jewelry and baked goods. Atea room was opened to patrons, while several items were also sold in live and silent auctions.

Last year, the event raised over $3,000 for the purchase of sports equipment, musical instruments, games and other items for the school. This year, organizers hope to earn $3,500, said parent volunteer Lauri Goodman.

"This is basically our first fundraiser of the year," she said. "The money goes back into the school, it could be (used) to buy games for the kids, anything the kids might need. We don't use the money for supplies, but anything else."
