Cyclist sustains serious injuries

A 17-year-old Innisfil cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision with a motor vehicle Oct. 31.

Police responded to a report of a collision on Lockhart Road west of the 20th Side Road in the town, at about 6:40 a.m. A westbound vehicle struck the cyclist, who was travelling in the opposite direction. Road conditions were dark at the time when the collision occurred, and the cyclist was riding into oncoming traffic. He was thrown into the road's north ditch by the impact. The teen sustained serious injuries, but they are not considered life threatening. He was transported to hospital for treatment. The driver of the van was uninjured.

Police remind pedestrians to wear light coloured or reflective clothing while near roadways during periods of darkness. Cyclists must have proper lighting on the front and rear of their bicycles, so they are clearly visible in poor road conditions.
