Program for a Trades 'R' Us kid

Trades 'R' Us, a free program coordinated through the the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program, is coming close to the community.

The one hour and 15 minute interactive presentation for parents and students in grades 8, 9 and 10 provides participants with information that will help them make positive career choices. The program includes hands-on activities, a fun quiz, a PowerPoint presentation, and a grab bag of skilled trades resources.

Trades 'R' Us is a partnership between the Simcoe County and Simcoe Muskoka Catholic district school boards, and is designed to promote skilled trade occupations to students and their parents. The program will be offered from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at several local sites. Barrie's Army, Navy and Air Force Club will host the program Nov. 14. The Bradford Community Centre will host on Nov. 27, and Alliston's Gibson Centre will have a presentation Nov. 28.

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program is a schoolto work program that opens the door for students to explore apprenticeship occupations starting in Grade 11 or 12 through the cooperative education. Students are given an opportunity to become registered apprentices and work towards becoming certified in a skilled trade, while earning their secondary school diplomas.
