Wee Diggers playing big time hockey
The boys worked hard in the offensive and defensive zone, shutting out the Stars by a score of 3-0. Harrison Dietrich recorded another shutout, and covered the net from side to side and top to bottom. Goals were scored by Cole Vardy, Travis Davies, and Cody Harrison. Assists where given to Cooper Moores, Kyle Sickinger, Jesse Tuckey, Luke Hiebert, and Jacob McLeary. Less than 24 hours later, the team travelled to Markham to go head to head once again with the Waxers. This game proved to be tough one for the Wee Diggers. The two teams went back and forth all game. Our goalie Taylor Apsey did a great job in net coming up with some key saves to preserve a 3-3 tie. Goals in this game where scored by Luke Hiebert (2), and Josh Columbus. Assists were given to Jesse Tuckey, Cody Harrison and Cole Vardy. On Friday November 2, the Hawks drove around Lake Simcoe to play a 7 p.m. game in Sutton against a very strong and disciplined Georgina squad. The Blaze goaltending and their passing skills proved to be too much for the Hawks to handle that night. The boys took the loss in stride, shaking it off so they could get ready for their game against EG the following day. Saturday November 3, the Atom AE travelled to Sharon to take on EG. The boys game out flying. It was clear they where on mission. The team dug in and showed what great speed and determination can do. They worked hard together, clipping the Eagles wings by a score of 3-0. Dietrich recorded his fifth shutout of the season, with this being his fourth in row. Marshall Hamilton led the scoring with an unassisted goal. Goals where also scored by Tuckey, and Walker Curtis. Assists went to Sickinger, Davies, and Vardy . The boys ended this five game stint in Stroud on Nov. 4 against the Newmarket Redmen. The Hawks dominated during the game. Columbus scored first, with a fantastic pass from Vardy, who recorded the assist. Cole in turn scored the second goal, assisted by Moores to give the team a 2- 0 lead. Newmarket answered those goals to tie up the game. With the third period ahead of us, Davies was in the perfect spot to put the biscuit in the basket and give the Hawks back the lead 3-2. Davies was assisted by Sickinger and Curtis. The boys held on to the lead until a missed offside caught them behind the play. Newmarket was able to take full advantage scoring with under two minutes remaining, to tie the game at 3-3.
With 27 seconds to go, the Redmen scored, edging the Hawks 4-3. |
