Curfew bylaw debate withdrawn
By Chris Simon

Current laws can handle teens.

That's the message Innisfil councillor Bill Pring has heard.

In September, Pring introduced a plan to consider a curfew for the town, aimed specifically at teenagers who loiter and cause public disturbances. However, the plan was withdrawn last week, because it would overlap with existing laws which prohibit loitering, causing a disturbance and public nuisance.

Those laws, which were created by the town, provincial and federal governments, set fines and other measures aimed at reducing the number of incidents within the town, said Pring.

"Due to existing laws already in place by the federal and provincial government ... (I) will not be bringing forth a formal curfew motion."

Existing legislation, like the town's loitering and public disturbance bylaw, and the Child and Family Services, Trespassing and Property and Parental Responsibility acts already include similar provisions, said Pring.
