Feeling for a PULSE at the Essa Public Library
By Angie Wishart

Our new service featured at the Essa Public Library Branches in Angus and Thornton is called PULSE. This "Overdrive Digital Library" is an internet-based library.

Through the Simcoe County Library Cooperative, Essa Public Library patrons have access to, at present, 436 titles.

Patrons may borrow and download the digital titles anytime, anywhere. Digital media can also be transferred to compatible devices such as MP3 players, laptops, pocket PCs, and palm OS devices. Many audio titles may be burned to CDs and played in the car (transfer and burn permissions vary by title). Loan periods and checkout maximums have been determined. Titles are available 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Best of all, items are automatically returned, so there's no damage, late fees, or replacement costs.

It's simple to use, all you need to download digital titles are a personal computer, a valid library card, the free digital media software and access to the Internet.

Install the free software from the website at pulse.simcoe.ca.

We also have a link to PULSE on our library's websitwww.essa.library.on.ca,in the electronics resources section.

Once you have the software installed, you can browse and add titles to your cart.

Checkout is easy with your valid library card/password (PIN). Next, you download the title and enjoy listening on your home PC or on a portable device. Be sure to check the PULSE website to see if your portable device is compatible. At the end of the loan period, a downloaded title automatically expires.

You can also visit download stations at both branches of the library. For more information on this new, exciting service at your public library, visit or call us at 424-6531 (Angus) or 458- 2549 (Thornton). We'd be happy to introduce you this new feature of our library collection.
