THORNTON NEWS Don't miss the Country Christmas bazaar and bake sale being held Saturday November 17 at Trinity United Church from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. It will feature crafts, a white elephant table, silent auction and home made baking. A continental breakfast will be served for just $4, with the proceeds going to the Mission and Service fund. The breakfast includes muffins, scones, tea biscuits, fruit, juice and coffee. Some of the many guest venders will be selling candles, children's books, fleece blankets and jewelry. For more information, call 458-1353. The Thornton Lions will be hosting their annual spaghetti dinner on Sunday November 18 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Lions Club Foundation of Canada's dog guide program. This program trains dog guides for visually impaired people. It's a great cause and a delicious way to support it. Today, at the Thornton Arena from 3 to 8 p.m., you can get your free flu shot. If you can't make it out today there are many clinics being held around the region. The closest clinics will be held at the health unit office at 2-25 King Street South in Cookstown on Nov. 22 and 29, and Dec. 6 from 3 to 8 p.m. For more locations, check out www.simcoemuskokahealth. org. One of the first Santa Claus parades in the area is being held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in Angus. The parade starts at Peacekeepers Park and heads across Mill Street to the arena. After the parade, children can visit with Santa and Mrs. Clause and enjoy some refreshments. At Ivy Presbyterian Church, they have a heart for making a difference in other's lives. On Sunday November 4, Erin Patton spoke about her mission trip to Moldova during the past summer. The numerous photos and her moving story about her work in the orphanage explained why after returning from her scheduled trip that just four days later her heart had lured her back to the many neglected, disabled children of Moldova. Making a difference in New Orleans just over a year ago, 23 members of the church went to New Orleans for eight days to restore a home destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. This coming Sunday November 18, is Missions Sunday and they will be recapping their trip and you can find out what is coming up for the mission team. On Thursday November 15, the Sunday school will be hosting a lasagna supper, they have sold 30 tickets and the proceeds will go to Turn On The Tap mission project, which provides biosand water filter systems for clean water. The Ivy Presbyterian Sunday School will help three families in a third world country have clean water. The congregation also participated in the Samaritans Purse Christmas shoe box drive. They filled 53 boxes with simple items that will surely put a smile on the face of a small child in another country on Christmas morning. You are invited to the Ivy Café - One Night Only for an evening of local talent and fellowship. It is being held this coming Saturday evening, Nov. 17 from 7:30 until 10:30 p.m. at the Ivy Orange Hall. Coming on Dec. 1 is the Thornton Community Turkey Shoot. It starts at 10 a.m. at 6831 County Road 27, just south of Thornton. is $3 per shot using 12 gauge shot guns only. lunch booth will be on site. Proceeds will go to the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Care Centre at RVH. Pie slices can be purchased around the village for just $each, with a chance to win turkey, ham or pea meal bacon.
