Couple charged with fraud after social assistance scam

A 25-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, both from Innisfil, have been charged with fraud over $5,000 and making false documents.

The County of Simcoe's social and children's services department reported being defrauded of over $18,000 in social assistance payments by an Innisfil couple.

A police investigation identified that the couple supplied false information regarding their living arrangements and financial position in January 2005.

The false information enabled the woman to received a larger monthly financial payment from the county for just over 20 months.

The couple have a court appearance scheduled in Bradford in January.
