Young hands building hope The Churchill/Gilford United Church's minister's house has been busy for the past month with youthful voices, staple guns, rustling plastic, banging hammers and the whining of a saw. Over the garage addition to the house, is an unused room that the church elders have reminisced about years past when they used to come to do woodworking after school. The youth of today are bringing the area back to life. Together with some parents, not wanting to miss out on the fun, the youth have stripped away the old items and cobwebs and managed to winterize the room and put down a new floor. There's still a long way to go and construction items to purchase before we can furnish it with some clean, used furniture and start having our meetings in it comfortably. The enthusiasm and delight to have their own space for meetings, fun, conversation and contemplation has now sparked a fundraiser! On Sunday December 2 at 7 p.m. at the Gilford United Church, the youth will be hosting an evening of fun called Building for Youth! They will be performing skits written by Rev. Glen Eagle and providing their own freshly baked refreshments after the show. All are invited to attend the evening for freewill donation at the door. All youth in the community are welcome to join one of two youth groups. They will meet approximately twice per month. One is for younger youth, grades 5 to 8, while the older group is comprised of youth grades 8 and up. The overlap of the grades allows the Grade 8s to hangout with the group they are most familiar with in the community. For information, please call Wendy at 456-4692 or email zanywlp@yahoo.ca. |
