Tree lighting and turkey shoot set for Thornton
THORNTON NEWS
by Cathie Miller

The Country Christmas bazaar and bake sale at Trinity United Church was a great success. Thank you to everyone who supported the sale by donating items or renting a table and to those who took time to stop in and make a purchase or two. In other Trinity news, Reverend Thelma Arnott has agreed to lead the congregation until the end of December.

Coming on Dec. 1 is the Thornton Community Turkey Shoot.

It starts at 10 a.m. at 6831 County Road 27, just south of Thornton.

It is $3 per shot using 12- gauge shotguns only.

A lunch booth will be on site. Proceeds will go to the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Care Centre at Royal Victoria Hospital.

Pie slices can be purchased around the village for just $2 each, with a chance to win a turkey, ham or pea meal bacon. For more information call Mike at 458-9279.

You are invited to bring your family to Christmas in the Village at the Thornton Creek gazebo on Sunday December 2, starting at 6 p.m.

The festivities will begin with the lighting of the trees, followed by music and carols and a visit from Santa Claus before he gets too busy at the North Pole.

There will be hot chocolate and treats for everyone and time to visit with friends and neighbours. This event is sponsored by the Thornton Area Action Committee.

Essa Public Library invites you to join their online book club.

Visit eplonlinebookclub.freeforu ms.org to sign up and share your reading experiences.

Did you enjoy your last book or was it a bore? You can share your opinions with everyone at the online book club. Also, the library has set up donation boxes for new unwrapped toys for the Christmas Cheer toy drive. Help a child enjoy Christmas and drop off your donation soon.

Reminder to the members of the Essa Historical Society that their next meeting will not be held at the library. Instead, it will be held at the New Penny Restaurant in Cookstown. They will meet for their Christmas luncheon on Nov. 24 at 12 p.m. Roll call is a Christmas memory. For more information, call Olive at 458-9971.
