Shopping off to a slow start Christmas shopping all done? Gifts wrapped up too? Decorating accomplished? Baking finished and in the freezer? Christmas cards all signed and ready to be posted? If you answered yes to any or all of the above, I'm not sure I am liking you right now. I had all the good intentions in the world to have my shopping done, decorating finished, baking well under way but alas, it isn't so. I thought the recent snowfall would encourage me, spur me on to hit the malls and get motivated. All that snow did was keep me home from work and make me realize I really have to get going. I have a month left, wish me luck. Library news: Churchill branch manager Debra Mann. The branch's phone number is 456- 2671. Happy birthday to my good friend Fred Zielke on Sunday November 25. I won't tell you how 'young' Fred is, but let's just say we didn't put candles on his cake in case of a fire! Just kidding, my friend. Many happy returns. Get better wishes go out to Eve Gardner. We miss you at St. Peter's. Smile: I am going to try this one. It's difficult but I'll try. Exercise for people over 50. Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a five pound potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10 pound potato sacks. Then try 50 pound potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100 pound potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. I'm at the last level. After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks. If you have news/items for this column, please contact me at lagerow@rogers.com or call 436-9769. |
