Cinderella slips onto Cookstown stage

Rob Carleton, a seasoned professional actor, will be performing the role of Prince Charming in the Onstage Performance Group's upcoming production of Cinderella, at the Old Town Hall Theatre in Cookstown this Christmas.

"We're doing the well known story but in the English pantomime tradition, with references to local places and personalities; we're having a lot of fun with it," said director Michelle Devlin. "But we're especially excited to get Carleton for one of the leading roles.

"(Carleton) has done a lot of acting in Hollywood television and movies; he brings a professional polish to the part of Prince Charming. He really is charming; the girls who play Cinderella just love working with him."

Carleton, now on a selfimposed leave from the Hollywood scene, has appeared in such television dramas as Final 24, the River Phoenix Story, Zero Hour, Capture of Saddam Hussein, and On the Run, Capturing Wanted Felons. He also is slated to star in the feature film Hammerheads, from L.A. Productions.

What does Carleton think about leaving the glitz of tinsel town for the quieter pace of this area?

"It just gives me an opportunity to slow down, meet some genuine people, do some live theatre, which love, and get married," he said. "My fiancée, Amy, is the love of my life; I get a great deal of support from her, especially when it comes to my acting. She is an amazing woman, and can hardly wait to become her husband next August."

Cinderella will open on Wednesday December 12. There will be six performances with matinées on Saturday December 15 and Sunday December 16. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children.
