Santa has arrived
Barb Baguley, from the Cookstown Chamber of Commerce, says the event is an important yearly tradition for the village. "It's all community groups, the firefighters and the police are a big part of our parade," she said. "It's the 37th parade. We're small town, and this is what's important in a small town. It's a mighty parade." On behalf of Cookstown residents and friends many thanks to those great people, who took the time and effort to make this annual parade such a colourful and festive occasion: MP Peter Van Loan, Home Hardware, Innisfil Lakers hockey team, those graceful dancers (as elves) from the Positive Step Cookstown Dance Academy, the Sound Pulse Studio for providing the music with Inplay from Newmarket, Cookstown Central Public School's beautifully decorated float with students and teachers, Brownies and Girl Guides with their leader Helen Gilbert, Cookstown Playgroup and Magic Years, St.Peter's and St. John's Anglican Church depicting the real meaning of Christmas, the Georgian Bay Steam Show, Cookstown Auto Wreckers with the important message "Don't Drink and Drive", Carriage Real Estate. There were characters from fairy tales and children books representing the Cookstown branch of the Innisifil Public Library and the darling dressed for the occaasion ponies pulling their owners Peter and Carol Vanderpost (elves) on their sleigh, the Innisfil Pipes and Drums giving the perfect beat for the parade, and to all the folks along the parade route up Queen Street to the fire hall. And then came Santa with his reindeer, sent from the Essa fire department, and his helpers with candy canes handing out along the way.
