Watching the neighbours shovel snow Old Man Winter sent another blast on the weekend and it came down so fast and furious it was hard to see a foot in front. Neighbours were shovelling and plowing and as fast as they did that, it filled back in. The Alcona Santa Claus Parade had to be postponed and I can't remember that happening before. It was a real snow day for everyone. But hey, it is winter and we can expect more of the same over the next few months. Besides, Santa does need this snow to get that sleigh airborne. Our next session will run the week of Jan. 15 to Feb. 26. Registration begins on Jan. 8. Family Literacy Day: Visit our local branch on Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. for a chance to win fun prizes. Families are invited to join in on the A-B-C Family Literacy board game, an oversized board game that allows the people to act as the playing piece! Please register in person or by phone. This is a free event. Movies: Churchill branch: Saturday, February 16 at 1 p.m.: Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. Molly Mahoney is the awkward and insecure manager of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the strangest, most fantastic, most wonderful toy store in the world. But when Mr. Magorium, the 243-year-old eccentric who owns the store, bequeaths the store to her, a dark and ominous change begins to take over the once remarkable emporium. Bee Movie: Saturday March 1 at 1 p.m. Barry B. Benson, a bee who has just graduated from college, is disillusioned at his only career choice, making honey. On a special trip outside the hive, Barry's life is saved by Vanessa, a florist in New York City. The Parish of Churchill and Cookstown Junior Youth Group (C.O.O.L) has its next meeting on Dec. 20 at St. Peter's, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This is for youth aged nine to 12. This will be a fun party for the kids. Call Pam at 735-3484 for information. The youth group now has a new name, Christians Obey Our Lord (COOL). Senior youth group: Please contact Pam for information about the teen youth group held Sundays at St. John's Anglican Church in Cookstown. Smile: You do know what would have happened if it had been three wise women instead of men, don't you? They would have asked for directions, arrived on time, helped deliver the baby, cleaned the stable, made a casserole, and brought disposable diapers as gifts!
