Agriculture club hosts gala

Members of the Cookstown 4-H Club.
The Cookstown Agricultural society hosted a wonderful evening to recognize the achievements of the Cookstown Area 4-H Clubs. Society members served a delicious, hot meal for members, leaders, parents and friends of the 4- H Clubs. Five clubs were recognized for their achievements: Cookstown Horse and Pony Club, Cookstown Sheep Club, Cookstown Dairy Club, Cookstown Beef Club and the South Simcoe Healthy Eating Club.

Katelyn Rose, the master of ceremony, introduced the president of each club who gave a detailed report on their club's activities for the year. Members who participated in camps and conferences reported on how much fun they had at Discovery Day, Outdoor Expo, Careermania, Future Leaders in Action and Youth Adventure Camp.

The remainder of the evening was the presentation of awards. David Arnold and Emily den Haan won the Royal Bank Special awards for outstanding first year member, and outstanding overall member in the Cookstown area, Brooke Varcoe won the Dwight Bryan Award for Champion Junior Dairy showperson. The C.D. Sproule Memorial award went to Caryn Upton as high point member in the Cookstown Beef Club. Max McClain received the leaders trophy for outstanding member in the South Simcoe Sheep Club and Amanda Johnson won the California Daves Trophy for top member in the Cookstown Horse Club. Many more awards were presented for showmanship, champion animals and dedicated commitment to the club.

The Cookstown 4-H clubs had a very strong year and wish to thank the agricultural society and the many sponsors for supporting their program. Anyone interested in joining a 4-H club is encouraged to call Sharon Ann MacKenzie at 435-9326.
