Susan says goodbye to Scope readers
By Susan Stein

Susan Stein, top right, poses for a photograph with members of the Cookstown United Church Women group earlier this year.
It is time to say goodbye. It seems like an eternity, so many, many years ago, when I was asked to write a Cookstown column for The Scope.

Over those many years, due to the readers' interest and appreciation, the column expanded from just some personal news into covering local and community events at large.

The paper calls herself "Your Community newspaper. A community is her people, and people's lives revolve around anniversaries, special birthdays, weddings, the arrival of children, and deaths of loved ones.

An integral part of a community are her organizations. Those of the church UCW, ACW, the Girls Guides, the Senior Club, the Legion, the Agriculture Society, the 4-H Club, the Georgian Bay Steam and Plowmens Associaton, The South Simcoe Theatre, The Boosters and The Newtones. And although called Tec We Gwill W.I., this branch of the world wide century old organization, has been and is instrumental in bringing important resolutions to the benefit of all.

I must admit, it was a very hard decision to make to resign. I love to write, I loved to review the plays and Music in Cookstown, and because I knew, that I contributed to the life of the community. To remind me of my contributions and much cherished by me, are the certificates and plaques of recognition I have received from Cookstown Central Public School, the Agricultural Society, the Legion, the South Simcoe Theatre, the Cookstown and District Chamber of Commerce, an award from MP Aileen Carrol, Certificate of Merit from the Province of Ontario, and the latest (my name was submitted by the mayor of Innisfil Brian Jackson) being selected as a Rogers Television Hometown Hero, presented to me on behalf of Rogers by videographer Brian Davis and taped on the main street of Cookstown.

To all my readers, to the staff of The Scope, my best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy new year.
