David Chambers had the right words for the Christmas Concert presented by the Boosters on Thursday, December 13.
It was a concert in the old tradition, when communities presented a show with local talents - singing, reciting, piano and violin recitals, and sing- along.
Patsy Bosomworth, elegantly gowned, was the MC, and also the singer. Along with leader David Chamber on violin and Valerie Wauchope on piano, the trio provided the lovely musical entertainment.
David Chamber also delighted the audience playing Johann Strauss's Skating Waltz.
Patty Ellis, though totally blind, is a most gifted singer.
She sang two songs, describing them as ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, and playing the guitar.
Kimberly West, daughter of Lloyd and Bonnie West, sang a Christmas Carol solo, and Dillan Fallis gave a piano recital of Fantasia and one of his own compositions.
Roy, whose talent as a joke teller is well known, was asked to share some with the audience and Nancy Goodwin reading a piece on a very funny Christmas present of a doll, named Louise, eagerly embraced by grandpa, proved that the truth of the old saying "laughter is the best medicine".
Judy Macoubrey, whose talent as a versatile singer is well-known on the nightclub stage, added her songs to the concert program.
Bosomworth, on behalf of all, thanked the performers and gave thanks to the Boosters and Newtones for raising the funds for the new piano for the Tec We Gwill Hall, where the concert was held.
Prior to the concert, a delicious turkey dinner, catered by Jean Reynolds was enjoyed and after the concert we were treated with punch and Christmas cake.
Yes David, it was a concert, steeped in tradition.
And as you said, hopefully it can survive modern times.
