Growth plan good news for 400 corridor
      Simcoe County Council has moved a significant step forward on the adoption of its Growth Management Study final draft, after its corporate services committee approved the plan last week. The study will come up for final approval by county council next Tuesday.

GO bus shelters requested by town council
      Innisfil may be telling The County of Simcoe to get GOing on the building of bus shelters within the municipality. An Innisfil committee has recommended council ask the county to place two bus shelters along GO Transit's County Road 4 (Highway 11) route, during a recently meeting.

Plastic bale wrap becoming more tough to toss
      Simcoe County is finding it increasingly difficult to dispose of some plastic items due to lack of markets. Members of the county's corporate services committee learned last week that polystyrene/styrofoam products and plastic clamshells are very difficult to find buyers for recycling.

Library breaking ground Saturday
      Bring your own shovel to the future new 'digs' of the Innisfil Public Library's Cookstown branch and community centre on Saturday May 24. Beginning at 11 a.m., library staff and dignitaries will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new site. The site is located at 20 Church Street, formerly known as the Cookstown Fairgrounds.

Several events planned for EMS Week
      The Simcoe County Paramedic Association (SCPA) has planned a variety of activities to be held at locations across this region during Emergency Medical Services Week scheduled to run until May 24. EMS Week is celebrated annually across Canada and this year's theme is Your Life is Our Mission.

Innisfil Hydro buys two former school portables from town for $36,000
      Innisfil Hydro has purchased two portables from the town. Council approved the sale of the portables, which are located behind the old town administration building, during a recent meeting.

Pound found by town council
      The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will provide pound keeping services throughout the town for at least the next year. Innisfil council approved a one year contract for the OSPCA's shelter service, during a recent meeting. As part of the agreement, the OSPCA will provide accommodations for creatures captured by the town's animal control officer.

Coyote bounty program would be ineffective
      A move to return to bounties on coyotes might not solve the problems of local farmers faced by problems with animals. Simcoe County's corporate services committee reviewed the issue again last week. County forester Graeme Davis, said that studies in both the United States and Canada have shown that widespread efforts to get rid of coyotes have proven ineffective.

      If you have the chance, take a walk down the Trans Canada Trail that runs through our village. All the trees along it are in full bloom and looking beautiful. An early morning walk with the dog and the birds singing is a wonderful way to start your day. That is of course, if it isn't raining, or snowing like it was Monday morning.

Drumhead Service and Parade planned for June 1

      I have a Drumhead Service and Parade date correction.: The Drumhead service will be held at the Lefroy Legion June 1st. The parade will start at 1 p.m., travelling from Arnold Street, along Ewart Street to the Legion parking lot. There will be refreshments at the branch for everyone after the service. Everyone is invited to attend.

      Ontario's first ever Conservation Week will be held from May 25 to 31. According to Peter Love, Ontario's Chief Energy Conservation Officer, by working together, we can create the culture of conservation Ontario needs to reach its short- and long-term energy conservation goals.

Cookstown library funding sprouts through plant sale
      Funding for a library program is starting to sprout. The Friends of the Innisfil Public Library's Cookstown branch hosted their annual plant sale Saturday. Held in front of the current Cookstown library, money raised will benefit the Writers in Residence program, said Friends branch chair Linda Hobbs.

Plant sale goes on despite wet weather
      Members of the Gilford and District Horticultural Society were laying the seeds for what they hope is another successful fundraising year Saturday. The group held its annual South Innisfil Arboretum Plant and Vendor Sale during the weekend. The event featured over 25 vendors, who sold a variety of items ranging from trees and herbs to jewellery and crafts.
