Old time fiddlers performing for the last time until fall
Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. Tomorrow, Thursday June 12 is the last Barrie Thornton Old Time Fiddlers Night until the fall. It will be held at the Lions Hall and the admission price is $3 per adult and children are free. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. sharp. All fiddlers, singers, callers, dancers and listeners are welcome to attend. Call Cec Denney for more information at 458-9996. Trinity United Church will be holding their strawberry supper on Friday June 20 from 4 until 7 p.m. Join them for a delicious dinner of ham, salads, strawberries and more. Adults are $13, Children six to 12 are $4 and preschoolers are free. Takeout will be available for $10 for adults and $4 for children. Volunteers are always needed to help hull the strawberries on the morning of June 20 or in the evening to serve and cleanup. To volunteer or for more information call 458-9893. June is Seniors Month. At the library, seniors are invited to stop by as they will be giving away bags, jar openers, fridge magnets and pamphlets to all seniors. On June 16, seniors are invited to join the Seniors Exercising Walking Club at the Angus Arena for a healthy brunch from 10 to 11:30 a.m. As everyone probably knows by now the Essa Public Library would like to build a new library for the citizens of Angus. At the Thornton branch they are selling tickets for the Angus Lions for their Canada Day Draw, with the proceeds going to support the Angus library. They have several great prizes including a 12- foot by 10-foot gazebo, a two-seater swing and a gift basket. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. You can also support ongoing projects at our own library branch by buying a book bag for just $10. The book bags are great for keeping your library items in when going back and forth to the library. The funds from the purchase of the book bags stay at the library at which they are purchased. Registration begins soon for the TD Summer Reading Club at the Essa Public Library. The theme this year is LOL: Laugh out Loud and features cartoonist Patricia Storms as the illustrator of the activity book and poster. Children ages three to 12 are welcome to join this free club which runs during summer vacation. It's a great way to keep your children interested in reading over the summer. For more information, dropin to either branch of the library in Thornton or Angus or visit the website at www.essa.library.on.ca and click on What's New.
