Get out and walk your block this April. Two out of five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. You can help change this statistic by joining the Canadian Cancer Society as a volunteer canvasser for our annual door to door campaign. Volunteers are needed in Alcona, Big Bay Point and Lefroy. The Canadian Mental Health Association of Barrie-Simcoe supports the development and continuance of self-help groups as a viable community resource for individuals experiencing difficulties. Self-Help groups can provide; support and understanding through difficult times; an opportunity to meet with others who have experienced similar difficulties; information and education; a safe and comfortable environment; suggestions regarding coping strategies that help to get through difficult times. Donations are needed for Music Fun Night at the Gilford United Church. If you have any old or unused music instruments like tambourines, shakers, chimes, drums or other fun instruments, call Dawn at (705) 456-2555.

Good Food Simcoe is a nonprofit organization bringing the Good Food Box to Innisfil. The box consists of an assortment of fruits and vegetables, much of which is grown locally. The cost is $10 for a small box and $15 for a large box. Orders must be pre-paid in cash and picked-up on the delivery day. They also need volunteers on packing day. St. Paul's Anglican Church at the Yonge Street and Mapleview Drive East intersection is now registering participants for their Rainforest Adventure Vacation Bible School. The Beta Classes will be held at the Innisfil Community Church starting January 9th at 1pm. Beta is a life changing program and the twelve week course will enable you to live free from fear, stress aniexty and the pain of past hurts and traumas. The Grange Hall in Lefroy hosts euchre beginning at 12 p.m. Every third Tuesday includes a pot luck lunch. The cost is $2, and there is a 50/50 draw as well. Both regular and bid euchre are played. A strawberry supper will be held at St. John's Anglican Church in Cookstown, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $12. Stroud Presbyterian Church will host its annual strawberry supper, all you can eat cold buffet. THURSDAY JUNE 26 Skip to the library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., bring your own skipping rope, a friends, and skip as long as you can. Sign-up today for this exciting, free event. All participants will receive a certificate of participation, and a refreshing snack. All skippers are welcome, but preregistration is required. FRIDAY JUNE 27 A strawberry supper will take place at St. Peter's Anglican in Churchill from 5 to 7 p.m. Adults are $10, children under 12 are $5, and preschoolers are free. Everyone is welcome to attend. Call 456-6731 for information. SATURDAY JUNE 28 Royal Canadian Legion branch 547 in Lefroy-Belle Ewart, will host an annual Canada Day celebration. The Parade will form up at Cumberland Avenue and Ewart Street and march to the Legion at 2 p.m. All children will receive a hot dog and pop. Kids can also decorate their bikes and enter the parade. There will be prizes awarded for children six and under, six to 12, and 12 and older.

The Wheel in Sandycove Acres will host an annual garage sale from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be 45 indoor tables, tea room and something for everyone to enjoy. TUESDAY JULY 1 York-Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan will host a pancake breakfast, in honour of Canada's 141st birthday. The event will take place at the Churchill Community Centre from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The event is free. SUNDAY JULY 6 A variety of Ontario-based Nia instructors will raise awareness and funding for the Canadian Red Cross China Earthquake 2008 relief program. The event will take place at the YMCA of Simcoe-Muskoka on Bayfield Street in Barrie, from 2 to 4 p.m. One of two Canadian Nia black belt trainers, Martha Randall, will be on hand.
