Branding decision delayed pending further consultation
      Innisfil's branding process has been held up. A town committee passed a recommendation to delay a decision on a potential new logo and motto for the municipality, during a meeting last week. More consultation with the town's Economic Development Advisory Committee is needed, before a final decision can be made.

Lake Simcoe has $1 billion benefit
      The ecological benefits provided by the Lake Simcoe ecosystem, a vital part of the world's largest and most diverse Greenbelt, are estimated at close to $1 billion a year, according to a study released last week. Lake Simcoe Basin's Natural Capital: The Value of the Watershed's Ecosystem Services, examines the goods and services provided by the watershed's ecosystem.

E-waste being accepted soon
      There are two upcoming opportunities to dispose of e-waste in the area. Home Hardware will host the events, which will take place at their Tottenham and Cookstown stores. The Tottenham event will run July 12, while Cookstown will host July 19. Both events, which are sponsored by Thriftopia.com, run from 12 to 5 p.m.

Pitch-In totals released
      Less people, more trash collected. The totals from this year's Pitch-In Day are in, and participants collected more garbage than they did last year. About 2,000 people collected nearly 20 tons of garbage from roadsides, ditches and parks across Innisfil.

      Innisfil residents say they enjoy a generally high quality of life, according to a report released by Ipsos Reid Public Affairs.

Local roads get provincial cash
      Several county-owned roads in South Simcoe are going to see improvements, due to the latest round of provincial grants for upgrades to roads, bridges and design work. Simcoe County received $2.7 million for upgrades, when council approved a committee's recommendations at its last meeting.

County approves funding for Simcoe busts
      Simcoe County could be spending upwards of $60,000 on commemorative busts of its namesake, John Graves Simcoe. County council gave approval last week to purchase two 24-inch busts of the first governor of Upper Canada at a cost of $36,300, and upwards of $20,300 for 10 smaller busts.

Wardens get two year term
      Simcoe County council will now be electing its warden to a two year term. County councillors recently approved changing the length of term of office from the current one year term. The change will take place at the end of the current warden's term in December.

Town officially opens new administration building
      Innisfil's New Town Hall is officially open for business. Several hundred people attended an opening ceremony for the town's new $11 million administration centre last week. Although the building has actually been open since March, Innisfil council and staff have been planning a proper way to celebrate for the last few months, said mayor Brian Jackson.

County council cancels large item pick-up program
      Residents of Innisfil and other municipalities will have to transport their large items to the local landfill site starting next year, with the end of Simcoe County's large item pick-up program County councillors voted narrowly 56 to 54 last week to end the large item pick-up effective next year.

Cookstown Central students bid school farewell

      Cookstown Central Public School's Grade 8 Graduation was held at Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie June 23. All the graduates looked so grown up in their dresses and suits. They were all excited to be graduating and heading off to high school in the fall.
