Adam and Eve clients asked to contact health unit
      The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is asking all clients who received tattooing or piercing services at the Adam and Eve Tattooing and Piercing in Innisfil between April 29 and Aug. 21 to call the health unit, as part of an investigation into potential exposure to non-sterile equipment.

Landowners targeted by proposed election sign restrictions
      Landowners could be fined if an illegal election sign is left on their property, if proposed regulations are passed by town council. A town committee has approved a set of provisions aimed at restricting the number of election signs posted within the municipality, during a recent meeting.

Liberal leader calls for lake strategy
      Lake Simcoe clean-up lacks a long-term plan from the federal government, according to Liberal Leader Stephane Dion. Despite a $30 million investment in the lake that was made by the federal Conservative government earlier this year, an overall strategy, including specific clean-up targets, has yet to be set.

Warden's title being debated Thursday
      A 166 year tradition in Simcoe County may end this Thursday morning. County council will be debating changing the title of their head, from warden to chair. The head of county council has been called 'warden' since the municipality's creation in 1842.

      During the month of July, Crime Stoppers of Simcoe- Dufferin-Muskoka received 201 calls. These calls assisted police in the clearance of four cases involving narcotics and other Criminal Code offences.

Gasoline stolen from Commerce Park service station
      South Simcoe Police are investigating the theft of gas at the Shell gasoline station on Commerce Park Drive in Innisfil. At about 3:35 a.m. Thursday, a woman attended one of the pumps and put $25 worth of gas in her vehicle. She drove off without making an attempt to pay for the fuel. The vehicle is described as a 2003-2005 white Ford car.

One person injured in 7th Line vehicle collision
      On Thursday August 21st at about 8:15 p.m., South Simcoe Police responded to a personal injury collision on the 7th Line near St. John's Road in Innisfil. A GMC Yukon was travelling eastbound on the 7th and had stopped for a stop sign at St. John's Road.

Munro calls for inquest
      York-Simcoe MPP and PC children and youth critic Julia Munro joined in the call for an inquest into the murder of Katelynn Sampson recently. Ontario's advocate for children and youth Irwin Elman called for an inquest into Sampson's death last week. An inquest would have to wait until after criminal proceedings are completed.

      The Sustainable Strategies for Safe Schools project is a dynamic new resource package that targets the building of safe and violence free schools in Ontario. The project was a three-year undertaking led by Dr. Peter Jaffe and Dr Claire Crooks funded by the Trillium Foundation.

County offices could be expanding
      Simcoe County councillors will be reviewing a number of options Thursday which will increase the amount of available office space at the county municipal building in Midhurst. Councillors will be looking at four options, including leasing additional off-site space, constructing a new building and two different options for additions to the present site.

Insurance rates decrease for county
      The trend towards ever higher insurance premiums for municipalities seems to have abated for Simcoe County. County councillors recently learned that the municipality's premium for the upcoming year, stating July 1, would decrease from $861,732 in the year ending June 30, to $832,082 for the 2008-2009. This represents a 3.44 per cent decrease or savings of $29,650.

      A 9th Line bridge could be getting a little love. An Innisfil committee passed a plan to allocate engineering services for the 9th Line Bridge, which runs over Lovers Creek near the 10th Sideroad, to the Ainley Group during a recent meeting.

Hitting the links for the chamber
      Innisfil councillor Peter Kmet, York- Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan, and Greater Innisfil Chamber of Commerce representatives Heather MacDonald and Elmer Spring were on hand for the chamber's annual golf tournament recently. Organizers hoped to raise $8,000 to $10,000 for the chamber.

      The BDHS150 committee, in partnership with One Red Chair, was happy to be part of last weekend's Carrot Fest. "Carrot Fest had a super turn out," committee cochair Vickie Stam said. "It was great to see the BDHS faculty part of the booth and see the community first hand.
