Quilt and rug fair viewer's choice winners named
      The Simcoe County Quilt, Rug and Craft Fair 2008 was held at the Simcoe County Museum recently. Every year, visitors are invited to view the displays of quilts, wall-hangings and clothing items produced by quilters from across the county. Visitors were asked to vote on their favourite item in select categories.

Gibson will host New Year's gala
      The Gibson Centre will host its second annual New Year's Eve Gala: An Affair To Remember 2009. The evening will include live music, dancing, cocktail reception, a dinner buffet and dessert spread. Their bell tower will ring in the new year. Only 150 tickets are available to the event, which will take place on the main floor of the centre.

Chamber hits the links for charity
     Photo by Barb Baguley Local residents participated in the annual Cookstown and District Chamber of Commerce golf tournament, which was held at Harbourview Golf and Country Club recently. The chamber's putting contest earned $435 for the Cookstown branch of the Innisfil Public Library.

      The ninth annual Ukrainian Festival of Barrie will take place at Barrie Central Collegiate Oct. 19th, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This festival's mandate is to promote Ukrainian culture in a multi-cultural nation, through traditional dance, music and cuisine. Cultural presentations such as arts, crafts, and embroideries will be featured.
