Jamieson Drive ditch project supported by Essa council
      Essa council will give its support to a project to enclose the open ditches on Jamieson Drive in Thornton. But fearful of establishing a township-wide precedent, council decided not to give any financial support to the project.

Winter service levels under review
      As Innisfil grows, so too does its winter maintenance requirements. After several complaints from residents about inadequate winter maintenance throughout the municipality, town council agreed to review winter maintenance and service levels for sidewalks and roads upon completion of the 2009 Operating Budget process, during a recent meeting.

Lions show heart for charity
      Some lion hearts were showcasing their seasonal cheer last week. The Lions Club donated $4,000 to several local charitable organizations last week. The Innisfil Public Library, Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Parkinson Society of Canada each received $750, while the Barrie and District Christmas Cheer was given $250.

Banting home funding will be explored
      Simcoe County will take another look at funding the restoration of the birthplace of Sir Frederick Banting. County councillors agreed during a recent debate over 2009 budget to refer a proposed grant back to the performance management committee early next year.

      Power failures and flooding in recent days have created conditions that require special care for many residents in Simcoe and Muskoka, the health unit warns. Flooding around a well could contaminate drinking water by allowing harmful bacteria into the supply.

Barrie Fair site set for public debate
      Essa council will be holding a public meeting in January to gauge public reaction to a proposal to rezone a property near Ivy, where the Barrie Agricultural Society wishes to locate its operations. Council directed the township planning department to set a date for the meeting, which is required under the provincial planning act.
