Fiddlers taking the stage
THORNTON NEWS
by Cathie Miller

Happy New Year to all my faithful readers and thank you for all your positive feedback and support. Without your help I wouldn't have a column to write.

Thursday January 10 is the next Barrie Thornton Old Time Fiddlers Night. It will be held at the Lions Hall and the admission price is $3 per adult and children are free. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. sharp. All fiddlers, singers, callers, dancers and listeners are welcome. Call Cec Denney for more information at 458-9996.

Now that the holidays are over, the library is back to its regular hours. Mondays they are open at 9 a.m. until noon and then in the evenings from 6 until 9 p.m. On Tuesdays, they are open from 9 a.m. until noon and Wednesdays they open at 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Saturdays they open at 9 a. m. until 2 p.m. Stop in and visit them and see what our library can offer you. Its more than just books.

Essa Parks and Recreation has many children, teen and adult classes to keep the winter blues away. There isn't room to list all the details, but here is a list of some of the events scheduled: Indoor soccer, preschool skating, Playball intro, Kids in the Kitchen, kids crafts, Salsa Babies and Salsa Tots, Muscles in Motion and Cardio Craze aerobics. Call the administrations offices at 424-9917 ext. 125, visit the website at www.easstownship.on.ca or pickup a flyer at the library.

For those who are tired of their Christmas trees and can't wait to get all those needles off their floors. Christmas tree pickup will be held the week of Jan. 14. All trees must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on Jan. 14. They will not take trees that are bagged or have tinsel or decorations on them. If your tree is buried in snow or frozen into the bank, they won't take it either.

If you have any news, announcements, or coming events, you can e-mail me at thorntonnews@rogers.com, call 458-0869 or drop it off at 25 Robert Street. Bye for now.
