Driver avoids RIDE

Police are asking for public assistance in locating a vehicle driver who fled from a RIDE program in Bradford West Gwillimbury last week.

Officers from the South Simcoe Police Service and York Regional Police were participating in a joint RIDE program on Yonge Street at Canal Road last Tuesday.

At about 10:30 p.m., a newer model Pontiac Montana van was stopped. The investigating officer had a brief conversation with the driver and entered into a drug investigation. The driver was directed by police to pull his car off the roadway.

The driver accelerated away at a high rate of speed and took flight from police. Officers followed the suspect vehicle on Canal, but backed off when speeds reached 90 kilometres per hour.

Police attempted to watch the vehicle from a distance, but eventually lost sight Day Street.

The suspect vehicle is described as having a short rubberized antenna on the front, tinted windows, and bubble style tail lights.

The driver is described as a white man, 30 to 40 years old, with, short dark hair. He was wearing metal framed glasses, a bomber style jacket and camouflage army style pants.
