Bradford department store the scene of a theft

On Sunday December 23, a man entered a Bradford department store on Holland Street West and forced open an office door at the back of the store.

The suspect removed a cash drawer from the office containing a quantity of money and attempted to leave.

He was approached by staff who thought he was acting suspiciously. The man refused to stop and fled the store.

Police were called and located the man a short time later in the lobby of an apartment building. A 29- year-old Toronto man was arrested and charged with break, enter and theft and possession of stolen property. He was held for bail on Dec. 24 in Barrie.

An unlucky lottery ticket

Police have charged an 18-year-old man with assault and uttering threats after an incident at a variety store in Innisfil on Dec. 23.

At about 10 p.m., the man entered the store to check his lottery tickets and got into a dispute with the clerk over a winning ticket. The man became violent and allegedly assaulted the clerk.

He then threatened to kill her as he grabbed his lottery winnings and left the store. The suspect was located several hours later and arrested. He was released from custody with conditions.

Man speeds to jail

A South Simcoe Police officer stopped a motor vehicle observed travelling at a high rate of speed on King Street in Cookstown Dec. 26.

An investigation revealed that the 18-year-old Innisfil man had failed to attend his court date scheduled earlier in December in Bradford. A bench warrant had subsequently been issued for his arrest.

The man was arrested and held for a bail hearing on Dec. 26.

Man arrested for impaired driving

A South Simcoe officer investigated the driver of a motor vehicle on Highway 89 in Innisfil, after receiving a 911 call from a concerned citizen.

The investigation resulted in the driver, a 44- year-old Innisfil man, being arrested for impaired driving. The accused was transported to a police station, where he registered readings of over 80 milligrams on the Breathalyzer. The accused was released on a promise to appear charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 milligrams.

Collision leads to arrest

South Simcoe police attended a single motor vehicle collision with minor injuries at Concession 10 and the 10th Sideroad in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

The investigating officer arrested the driver, a 22- year-old Gilford man, for impaired driving. The driver was given a Breathalyzer test and registered readings over 80 milligrams. The accused was charged with impaired driving, drive over 80 milligrams and released on a promise to appear.

Mustang too revved up

A South Simcoe officer was stationed at the MTO rest stop at the Highway 89 McDonalds in Cookstown Dec. 25.

The officer observed an older model Ford Mustang parked approximately 25 metres from his location. The police officer observed the driver enter the motor vehicle and proceed to rev the engine and perform a large brake burn, complete with loud squealing and smoke. From this location the driver proceeded to travel quickly through the gas pumps and then conducted another brake burn and drifted the car around a set of gas pumps.

A 17-year-old Innisfil man was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and given a court date in January.

Innisfil man charged with impaired driving

On Dec. 21, a South Simcoe officer on general patrol in the area of highways 88 and 400 investigated the driver of a motor vehicle.

The investigation lead to the arrest of a 42-year-old Innisfil man for impaired driving and drive over 80 milligrams.

The accused was released on a promise to appear.

RIDE program catches drunk driver

On Dec. 21, a South Simcoe officer conducting a RIDE program on Simcoe Street in Bradford investigated the driver of a motor vehicle for impaired driving.

The investigation resulted in a 43-year-old Tottenham man being charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 milligrams. The accused was released on a promise to appear.
