Government taking aim at women's abuse Although November is recognized as Women Abuse Prevention Month, we as a community must be vigilant 12 months a year, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. To assist us in this, the Ontario Government, Ontario Women's Directorate has developed a program called Neighbours, Friends and Families, which offers advice and assistance to communities to help recognize the tell tale signs of possible abuse. If you are concerned about someone you think is being abused recognizing the warning signs and risk factors of woman abuse is the first step. To report suspected incidents of abuse, call the Assaulted Women's Helpline at 1-866-863-0511, or TTY 1-866-863- 7868. The helpline is available 24 hours a day, is anonymous and confidential and provides assistance in up to 154 different languages. For more information visit www.awhl.org. Brochures are also available at the Innisfil and Bradford South Simcoe Police stations. |
