A few changes for the Essa historical society The Essa Historical Society held its November meeting at the New Penny Restaurant in Cookstown recently. This was our Christmas dinner and was the seventh year that we have met at the restaurant. Joan Truax present a Christmas cane to everyone and the history and symbolism of the Christmas cane was included. Grace was given by Arnold Banting and Brian Banker conducted a business meeting. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Arnold Banting reported on our constitution and a few changes were made. It was decided that our year would start in January, instead of the present April. All officers are to have their annual report ready for the January meeting. Our membership fees will be increased to $10 for a single and $20 for a couple. Wayne Cole will be our new president in January and the guest speaker for that meeting will be Bill Smith from Angus, regarding the history of the Northern Railroad. |
