Senate needs to be improved through reform

One point I would like to make and I know that there are many more.

I do like accountability in government and we do not have it in the red chamber. We do need an elected senate which is effective and has some power to help govern this wonderful country. It could be a Triple E like the west wants with effective, elected and equal representation. It also can be unequal in that some province due to size can have double the number of seats. It has to be workable for it to succeed.

The Prime Minister's Office does all of the hiring, firing, appointing of judges, deputy ministers and their assistants, commissions and department heads. It is almost or it is a one house legislature. When the PM works with others (and that is not many times) it is good but only then, and now just watch how a party run this country with so much patronage.

Power must be spread around and a senate that is elected from the provinces will be effective. We must have more compromise and not just autocratic rule like (prime minister) Stephen Harper is giving. We have 105 seats available in the senate chamber now, thanks to former prime minister Brian Mulroney, who added some more during his leadership. Presently, however, we only have 93 appointed senators, as 12 positions are not filled yet. We can and will loose some more due to retirement. The fact that the PM will not appoint any more to the upper house does not help this situation but who can blame him.
