Art students honoured

Bradford District High School students Katy Fudge and Matthew Boucher received awards for winning the MacLaren Art Centre's essay writing challenge A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words, Tuesday.

The contest, developed in partnership with Bell Canada, allowed Simcoe County students from Grade 6 to 12 to write essays inspired by their visit to the Barrie art centre's fall exhibition, Broken Promises: Photography in the Age of Stalin.

The exhibition featured state sanctioned photography taken during the communist regime of Stalin. Students were asked to write their impression of the images by writing a report, poem or essay.

All the entries submitted were read and reviewed by the MacLaren's education coordinator and exhibition research assistant.

The students were each given a Bell cellular phone as a prize.
