Some dates to remember Since this paper reaches us all by Jan. 16, I decided to see what momentous historical events occurred on the same day. After sifting through numerous events, I came up with these: January 1939: Comic strip Superman debuts; 1957, The Beatles' famous Cavern Club opens on Matthews Street in England; 1968, the 21st NHL All-Star Game, as the Leafs beat their all-star counterparts 4-3 in Toronto; 1976, Donny and Marie (Osmond) musical variety show premieres on ABC TV; and in 1991, Operation Desert Storm begins against Iraq, after its invasion of Kuwait. Just a little trivia. Library news: From Churchill branch manager, Debra Mann. Phone number: 456-2671. The branch is closed on Sundays, Mondays and Fridays. Smile: A bent over old lady hobbled into a doctor's office. Within minutes, she came out again but miraculously, she was standing up as straight as could be. A man in the waiting room who had been watching her said in amazement, "My goodness, what did the doctor do to you?" The old lady replied, "He gave me a longer cane!"
