Artist Mackey coming to the Gibson Centre Canadian landscape artist Linda Mackey is art liaison for International Polar Year, director of Arctic Quest and founder of the Polar Artists Group. She first travelled to the High Arctic in 2002 with renowned artist Doris McCarthy and returned with a passion to share the Arctic with others. Linda will be showing her work as well as works by other polar artists at the Gibson Centre during January. Linda will be available during this time to speak to classes about her work, early arctic explorers, and the effects of global warming on the arctic environment. Limited spaces are available now for a program presented by Mackey during January. The visit can include an art activity based on arctic art forms. Please call 435-2828, ext. 29 to book space. Admission is $2 per student. The Afroculture PA Day for children will take place at the Gibson Centre Feb. 1. This exciting day will include storytelling, drumming, dance and mask making. Special guests Adwoa and Fule Badoe will use the African cultural arts of story telling, dance and hand drumming for active participation. Preregistration required, $35 plus GST. Visual art and drama classes are starting this month, and include several after school and Saturday programs. Courses include pottery, colour studies, drawing and art fun classes for children.
