Scooter driver killed in collision

An 81-year-old Barrie man died following a collision on the 5th Sideroad last Wednesday evening.

South Simcoe Police were called to the scene of a vehicle collision at the 5th Sideroad and Salem Road intersection Jan. 9. Police say a Chevrolet Venture minivan was travelling north on the sideroad. It collided with a personal mobility scooter travelling in the same direction.

The scooter driver, identified as Arthur Wickstead, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

None of the minivan occupants were injured in the collision.

The sideroad was closed for nearly six hours while police reconstructed the collision.
