On Jan. 13, May Reive of Lefroy turned 97.
Her church family at Lefroy United honoured their long time member with a cake on Sunday to celebrate this momentous occasion. The always cheerful May was born in Richmond Hill and is the second oldest of 10 children.
The family moved to a farm in Lefroy when she was five.
May trained to become a nurse at Soldier's Memorial Hospital in Orillia where she graduated in 1932.
She married in 1946 and moved to a farm on the 5th Line where she had four children, three boys and a girl.
In 1964, she moved to her present home in Lefroy and became a regular attendant at Lefroy United Church.
Since then, May has received her 50 year nurse's pin and has been awarded the life time membership pin for the United Church Women. She has been active with both the cancer society and the Orange Lodge.
May is the very proud grandmother of seven and great grandmother of seven also.
You can see May at every church function from selling tickets, to making pies and attending meetings, and while we search for glasses to read our hymn books she has yet to own a pair.
Still active and independent to this day, May is an example and an inspiration to all of us. When asked what she thought about turning 97 she smiled and said she was glad to be here still. Happy birthday May and many happy returns!
